Mike M., Owner of Superior Overhead Doors Answers Questions Regarding Garage Door Replacement

How Much Does It Cost to Replace a Garage Door?

So when you’re thinking about replacing your garage door, a single-car garage door is going to cost between $700 and maybe $1,500, depending on the insulation value you select, whether it’s a pan door or a very well-insulated door, as well as any windows that you may have chosen. That’s really going to be the difference in garage door installation cost.

One of the things you want to look for is how you’re going to use your door. Is there a bedroom up above it? Is it an area you want to keep the sound down? Do you have a workshop in the garage?  Insulation value, or R-value,  may be very important to you because today you can get anything from just a non-insulated pan door to a very nicely-insulated door that will give you great insulation for years to come.

Other options to consider are if you want some light in your garage or just added curb appeal.  A nice set of windows can improve the appeal of your garage door appeal as well and can be a potential upgrade. When you’re replacing your garage door, things to think about are the insulation value, curb appeal, light. Do you want the wood look, but have low maintenance? We have wood-look doors that are a great option.  Do you mind having maintenance? Maybe you’re okay with having a wood door?

The wood doors don’t give you as good an insulation value as you have, today, with the steel-front, steel-back doors, because between the steel, they sandwich insulation in there, and you can get to a 20 R-value on the doors.  This can really improve your energy efficiency, keep your home costs lower, and also make your garage a place you’ll like hanging out because the temperature is maintained.

Depending upon the location of your garage, insulation can be very important.
